What is Zakat-ul-Fitr?

Zakat-ul-Fitr (also known as Sadaqah-e-Fitr or Fitrana) is a special charity for Eid-ul-Fitr. Every adult Muslim who has more food than he needs must pay Zakat-ul-Fitr. If the person is a breadwinner, they should also pay Zakat-ul-Fitr for their dependants such as spouse, children, or other dependent relatives.

When is it payable?

You should ideally pay Zakat-ul-Fitr no later than Eid prayer, and early enough to ensure that the poor can enjoy the Eid.

How much is payable?

The minimum amount due would equal 2 Kg of flour or rice from each person in the household. £3.00 per head is a safe estimate for those living in the UK and is the rate Islamic Relief uses.
